News, October Schedule From The Golden K Kiwanis Club Of Decatur

The Golden K Kiwanis Club of Decatur is once again selling peanuts, both as a fundraiser to help support 40 plus community programs, but also as a way to say “Thank You” to members of the Armed Forces, and to area First Responders, including police, fire, and ambulance personnel. Last year, the club forwarded 325 cases as a means to express our appreciation and support for these who give of themselves to serve us. If anyone would like to be included in this effort, please contact the club through their Facebook page.
Also, the club has announced their upcoming program schedule for October:
…On October 1st, Tanya Melendez, the new Executive Director of the Good Samaritan Inn will bring us up to date on their Mercy Garden. The produce grown in the 1.25 acre garden helps to support the noon meal program at Good Samaritan Inn, as well as food pantries at Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Northeast Community Fund, and Crossings Healthcare.
…On October 8th, Heather Purdue, Director of Scovill Zoo will preview plans for the zoo, and more specifically, the popular Boo at the Zoo, which will be held October 16 – 19, October 23 – 26, and October 29 – 30.
…On October 15th, the club will have their annual Youth Protection Training. In this day and age where we often hear of questionable practices involving activities for children, it is wise to review best practices to keep both children and adult workers safe. Lynda Durnil, club secretary, will oversee the discussion.
…On October 22nd, Macon Resources Incorporated (MRI) will be our topic as Amy Bliefnic, President and CEO, and Kyle Karsten, the new Director of Development, share their vision for the many ways MRI serves the community.
…October 29th, Dr. Dean Pribbenow, the new Millikin University President and Lori Kerans, Millikin Vice President for Athletics & Engagement will share both where we are now and their plan for the future.
Golden K Kiwanis of Decatur enjoys changing our world for the better – by helping children and others.
