Experience the Marvels of our Solar System at the 42nd Annual Astronomy Jamboree

     Argenta, IL – Take a journey through the night sky as you discover constellations, planets, and our moon during the 42nd Annual Astronomy Jamboree. This free event will be held at Friends Creek Conservation Area on Saturday, August 8 from 8-11pm.
     Enjoy live music from local musician Jim Hollis, then view the wonders of our galaxy from stars to the visible planets. Weather permitting, you should be able to see Saturn, Jupiter, and the surface of Earth’s moon. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring and set up their own telescopes and share their knowledge with others.
     “With the Conservation District’s telescope, you can make out the rings of Saturn and the Red Spot on Jupiter,” says Director of Program Services, Alysia Callison. “It’s amazing to take these tiny, abstract
spots of light in the sky and see them from a new perspective, and we can’t wait to show people some of the marvels of space for the 42 nd year in a row.”
     There will be a children’s craft and hotdogs and s’mores for roasting. Free for all ages. Must pre-register online by noon on August 7. Space is limited.
     Friends Creek Conservation Area is located at 13734 Friends Creek Park Rd., Argenta, IL. To get to Friends Creek from Decatur, go northeast on Route 48 and turn left onto Friends Creek Park Rd. Parking is available.
