Master Gardener Program Explores The Language Of Flowers

The language of flowers dates to the Victorian Era when flowers were given as a way to express emotions. Each flower conveyed a special meaning, especially for feelings that were forbidden from being publicly expressed. Learn the unique symbolism of flowers at the January Growing Community program presented by DeWitt and Piatt Master Gardeners.
The Meaning of Flowers: Florio-graphy will be at noon on Jan. 21 at the Piatt County Ex-tension Office, 210 S. Market St. Participants will explore the rich history of floriography and how various flowers and floral arrangements convey subtle messages.
“Should you send a red or white rose to the one you love,” says Horticulture Program Coordinator Beth Miglin. “Learn the language of flowers and how to send the most appropriate floral message to your friends and family.”
The program is free; however, participants are requested to register by Jan. 20 at go.illinois.edu/MGFlowers.
University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please call 217-762-2191. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your access needs.
