The Social Project Coming to Decatur On June 11

New Free Community Event Designed to Help People Connect in Real Life
The Social Project, powered by the Macon County Mental Health Board, is a new free community event coming to the Decatur Civic Center on Thursday, June 11 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The event is designed to make meeting people easier, more comfortable, and actually fun. Attendees can enjoy food, drinks, prizes, and sign up for dozens of free small-group hangouts and experiences built around
shared interests.
In 1990, one-third of adults had ten or more close friends. Today, that number has dropped dramatically as Americans spend more time online and less time together in person. Studies continue to show that reduced
social connection contributes to increased anxiety, depression, stress, sleep issues, and overall declines in
mental well-being.
The Social Project was created to help change that by giving people a simple, welcoming way to reconnect
with others in the community.
During the event, attendees can sign up for free experiences including:
• Golf foursomes at Red Tail Run and Hickory Point Golf Courses
• Tickets to shows at the Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater
• Chicago Cubs game tickets
• Dinner and Sea Glass Art experiences
• Wreath-making classes at Rudolf’s Village in Forsyth
• Historical tours, nature walks, and bird watching with the Macon County Conservation District
• Personal training sessions and rock wall climbing at The DISC
• Mini golf and ropes course challenges at Overlook Adventure Park
• Bowling and pizza nights at Victory Lanes
• Trees on the Tees walking tickets
• Pickleball 101 sessions at Cresthaven Park
• Water aerobics at Splash Cove
• Theater performances at Kirkland Fine Arts Center
• Adult dance classes and ice-skating lessons
• Animal encounters and tours at Scovill Zoo
• Yoga classes with The Decatur Wellness Collective
• Guided park runs and bicycle rides through the Decatur Park District
“Whether you’re an introvert, extrovert, or simply looking to meet new people, The Social Project makes it easy to start connecting,” said Tim Macken. “Come out, have fun, and find your people.”
The event is free and open to the public.
