THE MACON COUNTY HONOR GUARD IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS

     The Macon County Honor Guard was established in 1995 to consolidate the efforts of several Veteran organizations. Included were VFW, American Legion, DAV, Marine Corps League, WWII, Korean,and Vietnam war Veterans organizations.      

     The purpose of the Honor Guard is to provide full military honors at funeral services for honorably discharged veterans. The ceremony includes: full color guard, 3 volleys of rifle fire, playing of taps, folding and presentation of casket flag. The Honor Guard can consist of a many as 18 volunteers at each service. The Honor Guard functions in all kinds of weather and available any day except Sundays and certain holidays. They also perform other ceremonies such as posting colors, flag presentations, and other ceremonial functions as directed by the commander.

     Membership in the Honor Guard is limited to those individuals with an honorable discharge and a DD -214 for verification. The Honor Guard is an all volunteer force. The Macon County Honor Guard is a rewarding experience. In addition to enjoying camaraderie among it’s members the unit provides grief assistance to the beloved deceased veterans family by performing these services. The Macon County Honor Guard like every organization is always in the need of new members.
