Special Presentation Of ‘Mr. Shoaff: Lincoln’s Relative and Decatur’s Most Colorful Newspaper Man’ March 14

Friends of Lincoln Trail Homestead State Park and Memorial to meet for a presentation by Local Historian and Author Bob Sampson on “ Mr. Shoaff: Lincoln’s Relative and Decatur’s Most Colorful Newspaper Man” March 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Rock Springs Nature Center at 3939 Nearing Lane in Decatur, Illinois.
One of the best-known newspaper editors in the Civil War era, James Shoaff spent most of his career in Decatur but today is largely unknown. Related by marriage to Abraham Lincoln, this colorful and controversial character both made the news and reported on it.
Historian and author Dr. Robert Sampson explores how and why James Shoaff and his newspapers always brought readers back for more.
