MAN FATALLY SHOT IN 1200 BLOCK OF WEST MARIETTA STREET

   On January 9, 2026, at approximately 10:57 a.m., officers with the Decatur Police Department
responded to the 1200 block of West Marietta Street in reference to a report of shots fired with a
person injured.
     Upon arrival, officers located a 27-year-old male suffering from at least one apparent gunshot
wound. The individual was transported by ambulance to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he
was later pronounced deceased.
     A short time after the incident, 26-year-old Keishaun R. Thomas, accompanied by a family
member, arrived at Decatur Police Department Headquarters and provided detectives with a
statement indicating he had shot the deceased and in the direction of a second individual after a
physical altercation. The second individual was not injured. Thomas also turned over the
firearm believed to have been used in the incident to detectives.
     Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to process evidence,
review video surveillance, and conduct witness interviews.
     Keishaun R. Thomas has a valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card and an
active Concealed Carry License (CCL). After consultation with the Macon County State’s
Attorney’s Office, along with reviewing video surveillance footage and all involved parties’
statements, detectives arrested Keishaun R. Thomas for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm for
shooting in the direction of the subject, who was not injured. The shooting of the deceased 27-
year-old male remains under investigation. Keishaun Thomas was booked into the Macon
County Jail.
     This incident remains an active investigation, and detectives continue to pursue additional
