DECATUR POLICE RESPOND TO SHOTS FIRED ON NORTH CHURCH STREET

     On January 3, 2026, at approximately 8:48 pm, officers from the Decatur Police Department
responded to a parking lot in the 200 block of N. Church St. in reference to reports of shots fired,
with individuals struck by gunfire.
     Upon arrival, officers located a 35-year-old male suffering from at least one apparent gunshot
wound. The individual was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced
deceased. A 23-year-old male would also arrive by private vehicle at Decatur Memorial
Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
     Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to process evidence,
collect video surveillance, and interview witnesses.
     No arrests have been made at this time. This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and
detectives continue to pursue additional leads. The Decatur Police Department urges anyone with
