City of Decatur launches revitalization effort in Oakwood Business District, seeks community input

The City of Decatur is seeking feedback on what improvements and new additions the community would like to see in the Oakwood Business District. Residents can do this by completing a short survey: www.bit.ly/OakwoodDistrict
The Oakwood Business District has long been a vibrant and well-loved part of Decatur, however in recent years, the area has faced challenges and has not experienced the same level of activity. The district is generally the area near Millikin University along Oakland Ave between W Main Street and W Wood Street. To help revitalize this key business district, the City is partnering with local developers, business owners, and Millikin University, among other partners, to bring new life to the district.
The City’s economic development team is exploring solutions related to parking, lighting, and neighborhood safety measures. Additionally, this survey is a critical component of the revitalization strategy. The more feedback we receive, the better positioned we are to recruit the right businesses and make informed investments that reflect the community’s needs and vision.
The Oakwood Business District is one of several areas of focus in the City’s neighborhood revitalization strategy. We look forward to community involvement to help shape the future of Decatur.
