News From The Golden K Kiwanis Club Of Decatur

The Golden K Kiwanis Club of Decatur has announced the results of their annual fundraising golf tournament which was held June 20 at Hickory Point Country Club. Finishing in 3rd place was the team comprised of Jan Devore, Trish Spinner, Carla Sloan, and Terri Kuhel. The 2nd Place team was made up of Harold Dausman, Matt Dausman, Bill Sander, and Dave Slade, Jr. And winning the championship this year was the team of Kip Reiss, Jeff Blackburn, Jared Staples, and Don Giger. Proceeds from the event are used to help support some 40 plus activities and events the club sponsors to support kids and try to make our community a better place.
The club has also an-nounced its upcoming program schedule:
…On July 30, Bob Sampson will present “Decatur’s Not-So Grand Baseball Tournament of the Western States—September, 1867. Mr. Sampson called Decatur “home” from 1972 through 2020. In those years, he served as a reporter and columnist for the Decatur Herald and the Decatur Review newspapers, a congressional aide, a communications specialist at the University of Illinois, a member of the Macon County Board, and an adjunct professor at Millikin University. He also earned the title: “The Slowest Man in Vintage Baseball.”
…On August 6th, Quay Owens, the new Director of Community & Athletic Ministries at the Decatur Salvation Army will give us an overview of the many Youth Programs that they offer. His current advice tells us to “Speak life over your goals. Pray over your plans. And don’t forget: You’ve survived 100% of your worst days so far.”
…On August 13th, Mary Rogers of HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital Foundation in Springfield will bring us up to date on what is happening with the Children’s Miracle Network. The club will be making a contribution to honor the medical care that the network provides for children in the area.
…On August 20th, Connie Doty, Patient Services Coordinator at Jerger Pediatric Dentistry will remind us of the services offered through the Teddy Bear Dental Health Fund. This fund was established years ago to help families get special dental care when it would cause a financial hardship on the family to proceed, and to pay for special dental service when prescribed by a dentist, but not covered by the state medical card. Once again, the club will be showing their appreciation for this fund, too.
…On August 27th, the club will not meet since members will be helping serve the community at the Farm Progress Show. We invite everyone to come say “Hi” as we serve at the beverage tents at the show from August 26th through August 29th.

The Golden K Kiwanis Club of Decatur enjoys changing our world for the better – by helping children and others. They are involved in supporting over 40 local organizations and activities, by annually donating cash grants and over 10,000 hours of service to the community. Money for the grants are raised through fundraising events. Programs and presenters are subject to change without notice. Meetings are held every Wednesday morning with a fellowship hour starting at 8:30 am and a program starting at 9:30 am at the Salvation Army, 229 W. Main Street in Decatur.
