Oglesby Singers to perform at annual Christmas Tea Dec. 1

The Oglesby Mansion
The Governor Oglesby Mansion Christmas Tea committee has been busy polishing the silver and planning for the annual Christmas Tea on Sunday, December 1 from 1pm to 4pm. “The Oglesby Singers” have joined the entertainment line up for the day. The group performed at the mansion’s annual dinner in September. Joy to the World, Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Deck the Halls, and Go Tell It on the Mountain are songs included in the performance which will begin at 2pm. Tourists are encouraged to join in the singing. Harpist Stefanie Pansch will be performing from 1pm to 2pm.
Dave Davis, president of the mansion board explains “this year we are happy to have the Garden Club of Decatur decorating the mansion for the holidays. We appreciate this community partnership!” The mansion offers two floors of rooms on their tours which include original flooring, fireplaces and much Oglesby memorabilia. “The house is dressed as it might have been in 1880 when the governor, Emma, and their six children lived there,” says Carol Pelz, Christmas Tea chairman. Exclusive Oglesby Mansion Christmas ornaments are available for a $15 donation.
The mansion is located at 421 West William St in Decatur. No reservations are necessary for any of the festivities. The public will be able to stroll the mansion with an informal tour and see the many decorations. There will also be tea, punch, coffee, and cookies available. Suggested donations are $5 per adult and $2 per child. More information about the Mansion is available at www.oglesbymansion.org For additional information about the Christmas Tea call 217-791-1385.
