The Golden K Kiwanis Club Of Decatur Gives Special Recognition For Community Service

The Golden K Kiwanis Club of Decatur recently gave special recognition honoring service to our community. Recognized for giving 2,000 hours of service over her lifetime was Lynda Durnil. Mrs. Durnil serves as the club secretary and has been described as “the glue that holds the club together.”
Recognized for giving 4,000 of service each over their lifetimes were past presidents Cheryl Boss and Gary Goeken. Mrs. Boss continues to oversee the adopt-a-school program with Franklin Grove School and Mr. Goeken serves as the club’s sound technician and coordinates the club’s efforts with the annual Seniorama.
Also, the Club recognized Paula Luckenbill as their Kiwanian of the Year. Ms. Luckenbill has been working with Decatur’s 9-11 Memorial, Beautify Decatur, and recycling plastic lids into park benches which have been placed at the Scovill Children’s Zoo, and at schools and civic organizations.
For the month of November, Golden K will largely emphasize the importance of the Salvation Army in our community.
…On November 6, the Kyle Karsten, Development Director of the Salvation Army will use the regular club meeting to kick off their annual Christmas campaign. An overview of the many events will be presented and the community chairmen will be introduced. Golden K has been honored to host this event for several years.
…On November 13, Chris Brodnicki, the General Manager of the Decatur Civic Center will remind us of the many things happening at the Civic Center.
…On November 20, Major Randall Summit, Pastor/Administrator at the Salvation Army will remind us of the Army’s History and their Mission. He will also share some thoughts about the Thanksgiving Season.
…And on November 27, Lelah Ray, the Salvation Army’s Social Services Director will review the many Social Services Ministries that the Salvation Army offers.
Golden K Kiwanis of Decatur enjoys changing our world for the better – by helping children and others. They are involved in supporting over 40 local organizations and activities, by annually donating over 10,000 hours of service to the community. Programs and presenters are subject to change without notice. Meetings are held every Wednesday morning with a fellowship hour starting at 8:30 am and a program starting at 9:30 am at the Salvation Army, 229 W. Main Street in Decatur. Anyone who is interested in serving our community is invited to attend.
