Police Report Motor Vehicle Crash On Route 36 And 27th Street Resulted In Serious Injury

On 6-14-24 at approximately 2257 hours, Decatur Police Officers were detailed to the intersection of US Route 36 and N 27th St in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving serious injury.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2021 Jeep traveled eastbound on Route 36 and made a left turn onto N 27th St. A 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveled westbound on Route 36 and the vehicles collided inside this intersection.

The driver of the Jeep, a 56-year-old Decatur resident, was uninjured as a result of the crash. The operator of the motorcycle, a 21-year-old Decatur resident, sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by ambulance and then flown to a local trauma center.

The driver of the Jeep was wearing their seatbelt and officers on scene found no evidence to suggest they were impaired by drugs or alcohol. The operator of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and their toxicology results for impairment by drugs or alcohol are unknown at this time.

Members of the DPD Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded and are actively investigating this crash. The report number for the incident is 24005819.
