IL Freedom Caucus: IVF measure will increase cost of healthcare for Illinois residents

The Illinois Freedom Caucus says a measure to lift the cap insurance companies could place on the number of in vitro fertilazation (IVF) cycles they cover will only make already high healthcare costs even higher.

Current law allows insurance companies to limit fertilization treatment coverage to four IVF cycles. The average cost of an IVF cycle is $15,000 to $30,000. Senate Bill 773 removes insurance companies’ ability to place a cap on the number of IVF cycles they cover.

“Once again, the leaders in our state are demonstrating they either don’t know how insurance coverage works or don’t care. The only way insurance companies can keep coverage costs affordable is to have the ability to manage those costs. By forcing unlimited coverage of expensive procedures like IVF cycles, the cost of coverage is inevitably going to increase.

It is not as if couples had zero options for IVF coverage. The system we have now is manageable and as the saying goes, ‘if it aint broke; don’t fix it.’ Unfortunately, our leaders prefer to ignore real problems and focus all of their attention on finding ways to use the power of the state to make political statements. At a time when families are struggling to afford basic household necessitites thanks to the Biden economy, our woke overlords are adding insult to injury by enacting policies that will dramatically increase the cost of healthcare in our state. When it comes time for families to renew their health insurance, they will have to choose between overpaying to maintain their existing plan or dropping coverage to make their plan more affordable. However, those families can take comfort knowing that even though they can’t afford health insurance anymore – our leaders were able to make a political statement at their expense, and apparently that is what matters in Springfield.”

The Illinois Freedom Caucus is comprised of State Representatives Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro), chairman; Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City), vice-chairman; Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich); Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville); Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur); Jed Davis (R-Newark) and David Friess (R-Red Bud). The members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus are members of the Illinois General Assembly who are advocating for limited government, lower taxes and accountability, and integrity in government.
