SHERIFF’S OFFICE UPDATE ON DEATH OF MAN FOUND ON NORTH OAKLEY ROAD

Oakley-At approximately 1746 hours on 05/17/23 Macon County Sheriffs Office deputies were detailed to the 4700 block of North Oakley Road for a report of an injured person down.  Responding deputies located a deceased 33 year old male later identified as Michael Cox.  Macon County Sheriffs Office detectives, with the help of the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services, determined through the course of their investigation that Michael Cox had been involved in a physical altercation with a male later identified as 32 year old Scott Walston. 

As a result of that altercation Michael Cox was killed by blunt force trauma to the head. Scott Walston was apprehended outside of Macon County during the evening hours of 05/19/23.  Walston was later questioned and admitted to engaging in a physical altercation with Michael Cox that ultimately led to Cox’s death.  This is an ongoing investigation and more information may be released in the future.
