Barn Colony Artists 2023 Spring Show will open Monday, May 1

 

     Barn Colony Artists 2023 Spring Show will open Monday, May 1 in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water, downtown Decatur. The show will run through May 20. The public is invited to attend the Live After Five Reception at the gallery May 5, 5-7pm. The event is free and open to the public. The Blue Connection, featuring the work of Millikin students; as well as Gallery 510, will be open.

David Barista will be judge for this show. Barista graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA, with an emphasis in art education. He has taught in various schools in Chicagoland and the state of Illinois; working in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, collage, and printmaking. He has worked with Decatur Public schools since 2016 and Eisenhower High School since 2017.

A special feature of the 2023 will be a retrospective of the work of longtime member, Miguel Durban. Moving in 2002 from Seville, Spain to Decatur, Miguel, a civil engineer, was delighted to discover Barn Colony Artists. Miguel made good friends and over the years produced many works of art and enjoyed the Barn Colony shows and classes.  Now living in Spain, Miguel states that “There is nothing like Barn Colony in Spain or any other places either”

Barn Colony Artists will present a new creative award, the Ken Moser Kaleidoscope Award.  It will honor the versatility of deceased member, Ken Moser.  Ken was a leader in many ways, especially as he expressed himself through many genre with his calm and meditative style.

The public is invited to vote for most popular artwork at this Spring Show, which will run at the Madden Arts Center May 1-20.
