Decatur Township Assessor To Host Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Clinic March 21
Decatur Township Assessor, Vicki Sheets, announces her office will host a Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze clinic on Tuesday, March 21 from 9:00 until Noon. Seniors who meet the qualifications may apply for their assessment freeze at the Decatur Township Assessor’s Office, 1620 S Taylorville Rd. This event is on a first come first served basis; no registration is required. For questions, please contact our office at 217-428-3479. Seniors must apply for this exemption each year. Please remember to bring proof of household income when applying (Federal income tax form if one is filed and supporting forms such as 1099s).
Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption (SCAFHE)
A person qualifies for this exemption if the person: · will be 65 or older during 2023; · has a total 2022 household income of $65,000 or less; · owns and occupies the property as their primary residence OR lives in an assisted living facility and the house stays vacant or is occupied by the spouse; · is liable for the payment of property taxes for the residence; and · has lived in the home for a complete year (Jan. 1, 2022 to Jan. 1, 2023)
