Sheriff’s Report: Rural Decatur Man Faces Charges From Domestic Violence Situation
DECATUR – A rural Decatur man was charged with Unlawful Restraint, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Reckless Conduct after he fired several rounds from a pistol in his residence while his wife and 6 month old child was inside.
On September 21, 2022 at approximately 9:45 pm Macon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an address near Harristown, Illinois for the report of a domestic violence situation. Deputies were advised from 911 dispatchers that a 29 year old male was threatening to harm himself. He had previously fired a round inside the residence but no occupants were struck. When deputies arrived they heard another shot from inside the residence. Shortly afterwards the wife and 6 month old child were able to exit the residence and met with deputies who escorted them to a safe location.
Within minutes of the wife and child leaving the residence the male voluntarily exited the residence, unarmed, and was taken into custody. As per protocol, he was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. The individual was admitted to the hospital and transferred to a different mental health facility. His criminal charges are being held pending his release.
The Macon County Sheriff’s Office will not release names of the victim or suspect at this time.
