Operation Obstacle Kicks Off Second Race on Saturday, Sept. 24,
Decatur, IL – On Saturday Sept. 24, at 10 a.m., racers will take off on a 2-mile obstacle course as part of Operation Obstacle – The Race to End Veteran Suicide.
Richland Community College is holding this second year of the event in coordination with the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Each day, 17 veterans die by suicide. Operation Obstacle gives an opportunity to provide connections for the community, service members, veterans, and their families. It also builds awareness for veteran’s resources. All the funds will go to the Veteran’s Resource Center at Richland.
The race itself starts at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Fitness Center at Richland. It is a timed, 2-mile obstacle course. It’s mostly flat and covered with 22 obstacles. Those involve army crawl nets, carrying & pulling objects, and climbing over, under and through objects. And of course, you can’t forget the Fire Truck Hose Down at the finish. This course can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes to complete.
It costs $25 to participate. Registration is open online until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Anyone who is 18 & older and at any skill level can get involved.
