MAC ON SPORTS: EISENHOWER COACH RODNEY WALKER RESIGNS FROM CITY COUNCIL POSITION

J. Thomas McNamara

There comes a time to serve and a time to leave.
Rodney Walker has sacrificed financially to serve the city of Decatur as one of its seven council
members.
Walker resigned his position Friday because rules and regulations prevented him from numerous investment opportunities.
He explained, “Being on Council, I wasn’t fully aware that it would hinder other investment opportunities in the community.
“There’s state language that limits elected officials from being directly and indirectly involved in certain ventures. Especially ventures that involve the Tax Increment Fund.
“Over the past 3 years I’ve passed on many opportunities in the community.
“Now my hands are free and I/We can be more active in the community as entrepreneurs.”
He also said the City Council never conflicted with his Eisenhower boys basketball coaching schedule.
I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
