MAC ON SPORTS: ST. TERESA FOOTBALL PLAYER TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

A St. Teresa football player has tested positive for coronavirus, Principal Larry Daly confirmed in a statement tonight (Monday, July 20).
As a result, the school’s statement said, “all summer athletics have been temporarily suspended. The Macon County Health Department is conducting contact tracing and will be in contact with anyone who should quarantine due to exposure. The weight room and surrounding areas will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
“St. Teresa will work with the Health Department to determine when it is safe to resume summer workouts. Updates will be shared with the St. Teresa community when more information is available,” concluded the statement.
HIPAA protects the confidentiality of the individual involved.

I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune when information becomes available and hits at a critical time for prep sports locally and statewide as the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois State Board of Education and the Governor’s Office will determine when and if there will be a football and other sports fall seasons.
