Theatre 7 Holding Open Auditions For Season Opener ‘Come From Away’ July 7, 8

Theatre 7 is hosting two days of open auditions for the inspirational musical Come From Away. Auditions will start at 6:30 p.m. July 7 and 8 at Theatre 7, located at 131 N. Water St., in downtown Decatur.
Please come prepared to read a selection from the script and to sing 1 – 1.5 minutes of a song of your choice that shows off your vocal range. A pianist will be available. You may bring sheet music, a track on your phone that you can play through our speaker (must be a track without other voices, like a karaoke version), or you could choose to sing acapella. Bring your calendar to provide any scheduling conflicts you may have from July to the performance dates of September 11, 12, 13. Also, be prepared to learn a short dance sequence. Actors do not need to attend both nights of auditions. The show is directed by Jerry Johnson.
Come From Away chronicles the real-life experiences of the people of Gander, Newfoundland, and the almost 7000 airline passengers who were forced to land there when US air space was closed on September 11, 2001. The creators of Come From Away have stated that this is not a September 11th story. It is rather a September 12th story – a story of the best people have to offer each other, and a reminder that we are all capable of doing good for each other, especially in the darkest of times.
Twelve actors play multiple unique characters and tell the story of both the Islanders and the Plane People, revealing the fear and uncertainty that came with the terrorist attacks – as well as the profound generosity and compassion of strangers. Along with acting out the events of the four days, characters step out from the story to narrate the events.
