History Of The Heartland’s History Living Legends Event May 21

     History Happens in Decatur, IL!! History of the Heartland is sponsoring their sixth annual Living Legends event on Thursday, May 21 at Doherty’s in Downtown Decatur. The event is in the back room and doors will open at 5:30pm and event will begin at 6pm.
     It is free, and the public IS encouraged to attend. Cash bar will be available and attendees are encouraged to eat either before or after the event in the restaurant.
     Living Legends will celebrate the St Teresa High School Football Legends. All players, coaches and announcers are invited to attend to participate in a moderated panel discussion to share memories.
The event will be videotaped for the History of the Heartland YouTube channel.
     Event organizer, Ayn Owens says “Our community has a very rich athletic history and many of the community’s football success stories were with St Teresa teams. We started this Living Legends Series because many of us do not realize that we have people with legendary stories still living in this community or visiting it often. St T football is one example of successful athletic careers leading to leadership roles in the community, successful business and mentors.”
     This event series is a part of History of the Heartland’s Historic Preservation Week activities. One of the visions of the organization is to preserve the stories of the people in the community.
     Past legends events included: Fans Field, Decatur Police Department, Decatur Fire Department, DHS Teachers and the legendary Stephen Decatur/Decatur High School basketball teams.
