The Good Samaritan Inn Announces Critical Funding Need to Sustain Essential Services in Decatur

Decatur, Illinois — December 14, 2025, The Good Samaritan Inn, a longstanding community resource providing daily meals and support to individuals and families in need, announced today that it is facing a significant funding shortfall that threatens its ability to continue operations at current capacity.

Over the past year, the organization has seen a steady rise in the number of people seeking meals and support, reflecting increasing levels of food insecurity across Macon County. At the same time, the costs associated with delivering these essential services have grown substantially. Because The Good Samaritan Inn does not receive state or federal funding, the organization relies entirely on local generosity to sustain its mission.

“We are experiencing a critical moment,” said Tanya Melendez, Executive Director of The Good Samaritan Inn. “For years, we have used our financial reserves to keep up with rising need, but those reserves are now nearly depleted. Without additional support, we anticipate our remaining reserves will be exhausted by June 2026.”

To meet immediate and long-term needs, The Good Samaritan Inn must raise $410,000 by June 30, 2026.

“We know this may come as a surprise to many of our supporters,” Melendez added. “This community has always believed in our mission, and right now, we need that belief more than ever. Anyone who can offer support—through financial gifts, spreading the word, connecting us with potential partners, or even keeping us in their prayers—can make a meaningful difference.”

The Good Samaritan Inn remains committed to its mission of fighting hunger, strengthening stability, and building hope for individuals and families across Decatur and Macon County.
