Small changes can have a big impact on heart health

DECATUR, Ill. — Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Take control of your heart health and learn how sodium, fat, added sugar, and fiber impact the heart during these free online workshops presented by University of Illinois Extension.

Heart Smart Eating will be offered online from noon to 1 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 4. Participants will attend these classes virtually, and both sessions will feature the same content.

“Small changes add up to get blood cholesterol and blood pressure numbers in a healthy range,” says Nutrition and Wellness Educator Caitlin Mellendorf. “The class will raise your knowledge and skills to make more informed heart-healthy food choices.”

There is no charge for these classes; however, advance registration by December 2 is required to receive the link to participate. Visit go.illinois.edu/HeartSmart or call 217-877-6042 to complete registration.

University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please call 217-877-6042. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your access needs.
