South Macon Public Library partners with Illinois Extension for home preserving workshop

Unlock the secrets of home preserving with this free University of Illinois Extension workshop and transform your garden and farmer’s market produce into delicious jams, pickles, fruit leather, and more.

Preserve at Home will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 at South Macon Public Library, 451 W. Glenn St. Participants will learn essential skills and discover valuable resources to safely water-bath and pressure can, as well as preserve through freezing, drying, and fermentation.

“Everyone, from newbies to seasoned pros, will learn up-to-date information and new techniques for safe home canning and preserving,” says Nutrition and Wellness Educator Caitlin Mellendorf.

Participants attending the workshop may bring dial gauge pressure canner lids and gauges for a free accuracy test. Recipe samples will also be provided for those in attendance. Call the library by Sept. 29 at 217-764-3356 or visit in person to register.
