MOTORCYCLE, CAR COLLIDE AT THE INTERSECTION OF OAKLAND AND MARIETTA

On 10/30/24 at approximately 2005 hours, Decatur Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Oakland Ave. and Marietta St. reference a personal injury accident.
Initial investigation revealed that a blue 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound on Oakland, approaching Marietta at a high rate of speed with its headlight extiguished. A white 2016 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound on Oakland at Marietta. The driver of the Chevrolet began to turn left to travel E/B on Marietta and was struck by the motorcycle.
The Chevrolet was occupied by a 46 year old male driver from Decatur, who was not injured. The Harley Davidson was operated by a 20 year old male from Decatur. The operator of the Harley Davidson was transported by ambulance to a local hospital before being airlifted to a regional trauma center with life-threatening injuries.
There are no indications that the driver of the Chevrolet was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The operator of the Harley davidson did not have valid driver’s license and had a Blood Alcohol Content of .113. He was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
Members of the DPD Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are investigating the crash. Report Number 24010877.
