POLICE REPORT TEEN FATALLY SHOT IN 100 BLOCK OF SOUTH WESTDALE AVENUE IN DECATUR

    On July 13, 2026, at approximately 9:32 p.m., the Decatur Police Department responded to a
report of a shooting at a residence in the 100 block of S. Westdale Avenue. Upon arrival, officers
located a 16-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound and an 18-year-old male who
had suffered a laceration to the facial area. Both victims were transported to Decatur Memorial
Hospital. The 16-year-old later succumbed to his injuries. The 18-year-old was treated for non-
life-threatening injuries and has since been released from the hospital.
     Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to process evidence,
interview witnesses, and recover video surveillance footage from the area.
     The investigation remains active, and detectives continue to pursue investigative leads. Based on
the information gathered thus far, the Decatur Police Department believes this was a targeted
incident, and there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
     The Decatur Police Department asks the public to stay away from the 100 block of S. Westdale
Avenue as detectives continue processing the scene. Updates will be provided as more
information becomes available.
