Step Back in Time for an Independence Day 1860 Celebration at the Rock Springs Conservation Area

Decatur, IL – Experience a 4th of July festival celebrated 1860s style at the Homestead Prairie Farm at Rock Springs Conservation Area on Saturday, June 27 from 6-8pm. This free, all-ages event requires no registration, making it easy for everyone to join in the fun.

Event Details:

6-8pm: Tour the historic Homestead Prairie Farm, featuring an 1860s era farmhouse converted to a museum, with tours led by costumed interpreters. Then, explore the heirloom garden, where knowledgeable Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension will be available to answer all your gardening questions. Visitors will also have the opportunity to discover the joys of timeless play by trying out children’s toys and games from the 1800s.
6:30pm: Enjoy a delightful musical performance by the Rock Springs Dulcimer Club.

Picnic-Friendly Atmosphere:
Bring your picnic dinner and take advantage of shaded tables and benches, or bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket to relax on the lawn under the trees.

Rain or Shine:
All activities will proceed regardless of the weather. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move to the auditorium inside the Rock Springs Nature Center.
