The Salvation Army Celebrates National Salvation Army Week

The Salvation Army is honored to announce the celebration of National Salvation Army Week from May 11 through May 17, 2026. This annual observance, first declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, recognizes the vital work and enduring impact of The Salvation Army across communities in the United States.
The Salvation Army has served Decatur and Macon County since 1888, focusing on assisting the hungry, homeless, and victims of crisis. Located at 229 W. Main Street, the Decatur Corps Community Center offers essential services, including food, clothing, shelter assistance, and the specialized “Pathway of Hope” initiative designed to break generational cycles of poverty.
“National Salvation Army Week is an opportunity to celebrate the generosity of our supporters, the dedication of our volunteers, and the resilience of those we serve,” said Corps Officer, Major Randy Summitt. “It is a reminder that together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of our neighbors.”
