Decatur Fire Department Responds to Residential Structure Fire


     At approximately 12:08 p.m. on April 29, 2026, the Decatur Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at 2790 E. Division St. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions coming from the kitchen windows of the home.
     Engine 4 initiated an aggressive interior fire attack to contain and extinguish the fire while Truck 2 performed coordinated vertical ventilation, allowing heat and smoke to escape and improving interior conditions for firefighters. Other responding companies conducted primary and secondary searches of the residence.
     All interior companies then conducted overhaul operations to locate hidden fire and uncover remaining hotspots.
     The occupants were not home upon arrival. No injuries to civilians or firefighters have been reported at this time.
     The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the displaced residents, who include one adult female and four children.
     The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
