DRIVER KILLED IN CRASH AT MOUND AND NORTH WATER STREET

On 1/7/26 at about 11:18 AM, the Decatur Police Department responded to the
intersection of E Mound Avenue and N Water Street in reference to a personal injury
accident.
The initial investigation revealed that a white 2007 Chevrolet Equinox was making a left
hand turn eastbound onto E Mound Avenue from southbound N Water Street with a
green arrow. A silver 2002 Ford Ranger was traveling northbound on N Water Street
where it entered the intersection against a red light. The silver Ford then collided with the
white Chevrolet in the intersection.
The driver of the white Chevrolet was a 72-year-old male resident of Decatur. The driver
was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other occupants in the white
Chevrolet.
The driver of the silver Ford was a 32-year-old male resident of Decatur. The Ford driver
was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. There were
no other occupants in the silver Ford.
At this time there are no indications that any of the parties involved in the crash were
under the influence of alcohol.
Members of the Decatur Police Department Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded
to the scene and are investigating the crash. The report number is 2026-00000711.
No further information will be released at this time.
