Shooting at Old Kings Orchard Community Center – One Injured

Decatur, IL – At approximately 11:01 a.m. July 17, Decatur Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Old Kings Orchard Community Center, located in the 800 block of North Church Street.

Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old male victim who had sustained at least one non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was treated at a local hospital.

Preliminary investigation suggests that an unidentified Black male approached the Community Center and discharged a firearm multiple times, resulting in the victim being struck. The suspect fled the scene on foot heading west. He is described as a Black male wearing dark clothing and possibly carrying a backpack.

At this time, it is believed the victim was the intended target. There is no known ongoing threat to the community or nearby businesses.

Detectives were called to the scene and are processing evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses.
