POLICE ISSUE UPDATE ON RESPONSE TO SHOOTING ON SOUTH STONE STREET

On February 10, 2025, at approximately 4:17 a.m., the Decatur Police Department responded to a residence in the 700 block of S. Stone Street regarding a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers observed what appeared to be blood outside the residence. While conducting a protective sweep of the interior, officers observed multiple spent shell casings. Dispatch then advised officers that a 22-year-old female had arrived at St. Mary’s Hospital with a suspected gunshot wound, later determined to be non-life-threatening.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the 22-year-old female was at home with her children when armed subjects forced entry. When she acknowledged her presence, the intruders fired upon her. The female, who was also armed, returned fire. The children were not physically harmed during the incident.
At approximately 6:35 a.m., the Decatur Police Department responded to a residence in the 1000 block of E. North Street. Upon arrival, officers located Deonte A. Stone, 24 (DOB: 10/28/2000), with a suspected gunshot wound to the lower back, later determined to be non-life-threatening. During the preliminary investigation, it was determined that Stone was one of the intruders from the incident on S. Stone Street.
The case was immediately assigned to a detective within the Criminal Investigations Division. Probable cause was established to arrest Stone, Colton L. Clark, 25 (DOB: 09/01/1999), and a 16-year-old for the home invasion on S. Stone Street. Stone was charged with Home Invasion, while Clark and the 16-year-old were charged with Attempted Murder, Home Invasion, and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Stone and Clark were booked into the Macon County Jail, while the 16-year-old is currently being detained at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center. Due to the Illinois Juvenile Court Act of 1987, the Decatur Police Department is not able to release the name of the 16-year-old.
