Deputies with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a short vehicle pursuit in downtown Decatur area

     DECATUR – On May 6, 2024 at approximately 1245p Deputies with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a short vehicle pursuit in downtown Decatur area. Deputies originally attempted to stop the vehicle for expired or suspended registration plates. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as John Inman (a 40 year old male), refused to stop and led Deputies on a 5-6 block pursuit. The fleeing vehicle finally stopped at Prairie and Franklin Streets after crashing into a small concrete retaining wall in Central Park. After crashing the vehicle Inman fled from the accident and was captured near the Decatur Public Library.

Inman admitted to fleeing because he knew he had outstanding warrants. During a search of the vehicle subsequent to his arrest Deputies located a .45 caliber pistol that had the serial number defaced and covered.

Inman is being held at the Macon County Jail and charged with Armed Violence, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with Defaced Serial Number, and Criminal Damage to State Supported Property. Additionally, Inman was charged with two Failure to Appear Warrant for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Possession of Methamphetamine. After being booked in the jail the Illinois Department of Corrections issued a warrant for Parole Violations.

Inman will have his detention hearing this afternoon at 130p.
