MAC ON SPORTS: MOTION FILED TO REMOVE ST. TERESA FROM CIC LEAGUE

J. Thomas McNamara

Members of the Central Illinois Conference have filed a motion to remove St. Teresa from the league because of its obvious football successes.

St . Teresa principal and league president Larry Daly received this motion and rationale today (Wednesday, November 10).

Following is the motion with the rationale for it right behind—

—To remove St. Teresa High School from the Central Illinois Conference (CIC) at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 school year.

Rationale:

In light of recent events, the Central Illinois Conference is in danger of dissolution.  Several member schools have been exploring opportunities in neighboring conferences.  As such, one must give consideration to the potential implications of that action.

It is our belief that the removal of St. Teresa High School from the Central Illinois Conference will add stability to the current membership, while also making the conference an increasingly more attractive destination for other schools of interest.

They make no mention of football, but everyone knows football drives all IHSA sports because of the playoffs.

I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.

Remember many of these same schools were behind the breakup of the old Okaw and the ouster of the Maroa-Forsyth Trojans.
