MAC ON SPORTS: BRYSON, FLAHERTY NEW GENERALS HEAD COACHES

J. Thomas McNamara

As expected, Tarise Bryson and Sean Flaherty are the new MacArthur boys and girls basketball head coaches.
They were approved at Tuesday night’s Decatur Board of Education meeting.
And they were already on the job coaching that evening with Flaherty on the Generals bench at home against Normal University High and Bryson courtside in Normal with his Generals playing the same team, only boys, Normal University High.
Bryson succeeds Ron Ingram, who resigned last summer for health reasons, and Flaherty follows Michael (Dubb) Williams, who passed away suddenly last summer.
Neither is a stranger to their respective teams as Bryson was Ingram’s top assistant and the one he wanted to succeed him.
Flaherty coached Eisenhower girls for eight seasons before resigning with an overall record of 82 wins and 161 losses.  For the last two seasons he has been assisting Williams.
And they both won their debuts. Flaherty winning his, 53-39, against visiting Normal University High.  Bryson’s Generals took down Normal University High on its home court, 57-46.
I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
