MAC ON SPORTS: GOVERNOR PRITZKER SAYS NO SPORTS THIS FALL WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS

Governor Pritzker

   Sports Editor J. Thomas McNamara
Gov. J. B. Pritzker announced earlier this afternoon (Wednesday, July 29) there will not be any sports this fall without certain restrictions he placed on them being met which for all practical purposes means no football.
We’re still awaiting the Illinois High School Association announcement regarding its decision that was scheduled for 2 o’clock, but obviously the Governor’s press conference changed that and illustrated beyond a doubt who makes the decisions regarding sports in this state and it isn’t the IHSA.
Neither professional nor college sports are affected by the governor’s announcement.
I will have more on this developing, including comments from the IHSA, in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune and in an updated web story.
