MAC ON SPORTS: GOULD SUCCEEDS THOMPSON AS EISENHOWER ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

J. Thomas McNamara
Tim Gould is the new Eisenhower athletic director.
The Decatur Board of Education Tuesday night approved Gould to succeed Steve Thompson, who is giving up his dual role as the Panthers AD and football head coach. Thompson is going to concentrate on coaching Panthers football and to watch his daughter, Kaylee, play softball. Kaylee starts her freshman year at Eisenhower this fall.
Gould comes to Eisenhower from Alton Marquette where he’s been soccer coach and a teacher. He’s been there one year. Gould told the Alton Telegraph that part of the reason for his hire at Eisenhower was to “bring energy” to the school’s athletic programs. “It was a case of me walking into a great situation,” said Gould, “both with Eisenhower and last year with Marquette.”
I’ve asked District 61 officials to make his number available so I can call to chat about his decision to leave Alton Marquette for Eisenhower. His Alton Marquette soccer team finished runnerup last fall in his only year there coaching the sport.
I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
