There’s a fresh look inside Griswold Center where Olivia Lett’s and Mark Scherer’s women and men’s Millikin basketball games will play their home games.
According to Bryan Marshall of Millikin’s sports communications office, A lot of work has been done inside Griswold Center to freshen it up and to make the available space more flexible.
Refinishing of the gym floor was the major part of the renovations.
“For the past several years we have only done a light sanding and resealing on the floor,” responded Marshall in an e-mail about the GC improvements.  “We were to the point where the floor experts told us it had to be sanded down to the word and redone.  We also needed to add a new extended three-point line which was scheduled to come to DIII men’s basketball in 2020-21 (the rule implementation has now been pushed back a year) and women’s basketball in 2021-22.
“Since we were refinishing it, we decided to give the floor a new look.  In addition, Marshall informed that Millikin is sprucing up the two classrooms in Griswold.  The rooms will no longer be used for academic classes so we are doing some remodeling to make them more flexible spaces for Athletic Department needs.
“We are painting the rooms and doing minor renovations.  The rooms will be used for a variety of things from time to time, including a small weight room, team meeting rooms, backup changing room for officials, photograph studios, team function rooms, et cetera.
“Last fall we put in new flooring in one of the locker rooms and installed some new lockers.  We are in the planning stages for making similar improvements in additional locker rooms this summer.”
I will have more on this story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune where you always get the best localsports news.
