MAC ON SPORTS: HEATON NOW ALL-TIME SCORER FOR DECATUR AND MACON COUNTY

J. Thomas McNamara

With his 25 points in Tuesday night’s 88-33 road win at Ramsey, Central A&M’s Connor Heaton became the all-time leading scorer for Decatur and Macon County.
Since the Raiders and Cerro Gordo/Bement compete in the Macon County basketball tournaments, they are included in the scoring lists of the schools covered by the Decatur Tribune–Argenta-Oreana, Central A&M, Cerro Gordo/Bement, Decatur Christian, Decatur Eisenhower, Decatur LSA, Decatur MacArthur, Decatur St. Teresa, Maroa-Forsyth, Meridian, Mount Zion, Sangamon Valley and Warrensburg-Latham.
Heaton now has 2,160 points, breaking the old record of 2,141 held by Sangamon Valley’s Eric Leonard, who graduated in 2012.
He is one of six players all-time to score more than 2,000 points in their careers.
Heaton has the rest of the regular season, including the Central Illinois Conference tournament that begins Saturday on the Raiders home court, and the post-season to add to his record-breaking numbers.
I will have more on this in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
