‘How To Run For Public Office’ Seminar Aug. 12

Macon County Clerk
Josh Tanner
On Wednesday, August 12 from 6pm to 7:30pm community volunteer Ayn Owens will host “How To Run For Public Office”.
This is an educational seminar explaining the process.
The seminar will feature Josh Tanner; current Macon County Clerk as the primary presenter. He will explain what paperwork is needed and the dates it must be filed. Other topics will include: basic requirements such as residency, eligibility and pertinent details like the percentage of property tax bill each government entity is responsible for.
“I feel very strongly there is a need to inform people how to do the basic elements to properly register to run for public office in our area. We need more informed people involved in the process of running for public office and voting in our local elections,” says Owens. “I asked Mr. Tanner to give the presentation because he is our local expert knowing how to properly fill out the paperwork which is mostly turned into his office except for the city elections which are turned into the city. Josh is excellent at explaining everything,” Owens continues.
“I want to encourage people to get informed and involved in local government. We need citizens to regularly attend meetings not just to complain. This seminar will also give us the opportunity to explain if you serve on the school board….you will be deciding and voting on nearly half of the property tax levy. Josh will explain what percentage each taxing body is in control of.”
There is no charge for this event. For more information call 217-791-1385.
