Argenta, Illinois – On January 23, 2024 at 5:20 pm, Macon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Casey’s General Store located at 290 South North St. in Argenta regarding a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. The suspicious vehicle was previously reported to the Decatur Police Department as stolen.

Deputies located the stolen vehicle in the reported location & found it occupied by two males. Deputies attempted to detain the males in the vehicle prior to the vehicle striking a Deputy’s squad car & fleeing the scene. Deputies gave chase and attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it.

The Maroa Police Department assisted in the search and with witness information, located the vehicle wrecked in a farm field near the intersection of Cemetery Road and Duroc Road. Deputies, with the additional assistance of the Oreana Police Department, Illinois State Police & the Illinois Conservation Police, searched the area for the two male occupants.

Deputies received a report that the males were outside a nearby residence seeking refuge but were met by the homeowner armed with a firearm. One of the males was apprehended & taken into custody by law enforcement at this location.

The other male had fled to another nearby residence before being met by that homeowner. The second suspect was intercepted by the homeowner armed with a firearm.
