City to host ribbon cutting, open house at new Fire Station 7 – Aug. 15

The City of Decatur and Decatur Fire Department is ready to share with the public the newest Decatur fire station – Station 7 – with a ribbon cutting and open house on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
A Decatur Regional Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mayor and City leaders will take place at 3:30 p.m., and an open house will follow until 6 p.m. Fire Station 7 is located at 3540 E Chestnut Ave, Decatur, IL.
Fire Station 7 serves the area south and east of Lake Decatur and was previously located on the grounds of the Decatur Airport, where the City shared the space with airport fire operations. The $3.11 million station is the third fire station to be newly constructed in the last few years. Additionally, the four remaining fire stations have received needed maintenance and updates.
The construction was funded by bonds that will be paid back over the next several years, along with some federal COVID-relief funds.
