City to issue ambulance licenses for Decatur soon
Decatur, IL – The City of Decatur is nearing its decision on what companies will receive a license to operate ambulance services in Decatur.
While the City only has the authority to issue a license for the city limits of Decatur, it has long been the plan that a new EMS provider would also serve the greater Macon County area that Decatur Ambulance Service (DAS) currently serves.
Following Monday’s public administrative hearing with the four interested EMS providers, the City is one step closer to issuing licenses.
“We are pleased with the responses and information we received at Monday’s administrative hearing,” said Decatur City Manager Scot Wrighton. “Following some final discussions, the City will issue licenses and facilitate a smooth transition as soon as possible.”
The four companies are, in the order in which they submitted their proposals: RuralMed EMS, Lakeside EMS, Echo Response EMS, and Abbott/AMR EMS.
The administrative hearing served as a chance for the private companies to promote themselves as the best choice to receive a license. Additionally, City staff asked specific questions regarding the ability of each company to provide high-quality EMS services to Decatur and Macon County.
City staff will meet with the ambulance working group on Tuesday for further discussion. A decision will not come at that meeting, however the City of Decatur plans to issue licenses soon after.
