MAC ON SPORTS: DAMPEER WILL BE NEW EISENHOWER FOOTBALL HEAD COACH

J. Thomas McNamara

If the Decatur school board approves at their Tuesday night meeting, Lawrence (Moe) Dampeer will be the new Eisenhower football head coach.
I have learned from multiple sources, including several within the Eisenhower community, that Dampeer will succeed Steve Thompson.
Athletic Director Tim Gould responded he could not comment until the board acts and that was in response to my question to either confirm or deny Dampeer’s hiring
During last spring’s shortened football season, Dampeer helped St. Teresa’s Mark Ramsey and his staff with the defense.
Dampeer is scheduled for induction into District 61’s athletic Hall of Fame this October.
Gould has scheduled a meet-and-greet with the new coach for 6 p.m. Wednesday.  It will be in the Eisenhower auditorium.
Dampeer is one of alltime great athletes to play at MacArthur where his defensive line play landed him an Oklahoma scholarship and several bowl appearances.
I will have more on this obviously breaking story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
