MAC ON SPORTS: EISENHOWER HEAD FOOTBALL COACH RESIGNS POSITION

J. Thomas McNamara

Eisenhower’s administration, including Athletic Director Tim Gould, has announced the resignation of Panthers football head coach Steve Thompson, effective immediately.  District 61 released this statement about Thompson’s resignation, “Eisenhower Principal Dr. Amy Zahm adds,
Coach Thompson has been a great supporter of our students. Although he won’t be onthe sidelines, he will continue to foster relationships with athletes in his current role as a physical education teacher and Department Head.”
The head football coach position will be posted soon and will be open for a twoweek period.  Athletic Director Gould shares, “It is a bittersweet moment for our Eisenhower community.  Coach Thompson was a great advocate for the students and the sport. I look forward to seeing our program continue in the rich traditions of Panther football with the next coaching staff, concluded the district’s statement.
Obviously this is a developing story that I will have some thoughts on in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.  Thompson inherited a program that was in the clouds when he agreed to replace his predecessor Curtis Graham, who left under never disclosed reasons.
