Sullivan, IL , April 6, 2021 The Little Theatre On The Square is excited to announce three shows slated to open in the fall of 2021. The King and Marilyn will run October 15th through the 24th for 12 performances. The Marvelous Wonderettes will run November 5ththrough the 14th for 12 performances. Both of these shows were originally part of the 2020 Summer Season and the Theatre is thrilled to be able to bring them to stage this fall. For Christmas, the Theatre will produce a brand new holiday revue called We Need a “Little” Christmas,  running from December 3rd through the 19th for 18 performances. Tickets for these shows will go on sale in August 2021.
Even though mainstage shows will not happen inside the Theatre during the summer of 2021, The Little Theatre is producing 3 FREE outdoor concerts. The First Friday Summer Concert Series at The Little Theatre will kick off June 4th featuring Lexie Dorsett Sharpand Friends (Jordan Cyphert and John Stephens). The July 2nd Concert will feature Heather J. Beck and the Dynamos (Colleen Johnson and Amanda Bonner Church) from our production of Mamma Mia. The August 6th concert performer is TBA. These FREE concerts will be outside, in front of The Little Theatre On The Square. Please bring a lawn chair for first come, first serve seating on the closed off street and kindly wear a mask. Season ticket holders will have a reserved seating area closer to the stage. Concertgoers will be able to enjoy a glass of wine or beer during the show and food trucks will be on site as well.
According to Executive Producer John Stephens, “This summer would have been the 64thseason for live theatre in Sullivan. Another postponement is not only painful for us here at the Theatre, but the entire town suffers from the lack of patrons coming to see a show. Unfortunately, with the current indoor seating restrictions (50 people), no firm date on when that may change, and additional production constraints from our union, Actors’ Equity Association, our board decided the safest choice was to plan a shortened fall season instead.”
The Little Theatre On The Square’s office is currently open with limited hours from 9am until noon, Monday-Friday. All patrons who rolled their tickets over from the 2020 season will be mailed directly with three options for those existing customer. Stephens said, “More than a year without theatre and the arts in our community has really hit us hard financially and emotionally, but makes our future reopening that much sweeter.”
