MAC ON SPORTS: COVID NOT DONE STRIKING PREPS

J. Thomas McNamara

Sangamon Valley has cancelled its first two games because of COVID issues with its football team.
In response to a question from the Decatur Tribune about their schedule for Friday night, Michael Lee, Sangamon Valley football head coach, advised, “A player tested positive last Thursday (March 11) and as a result all players had to be quarantied for 14 days that forced the cancellation of last week’s game against Argenta-Oreana and next week’s game.
“Yep, it is one of those deals where you hope it doesn’t happen, but it is what we are dealing with these days,” Lee said.
The Bombers were able to find Stanford Olympia to play Friday night to replace the Storm.
And Cerro Gordo/Bement athletic director Brandon Willard said he was able to schedule Heyworth there to replace the Storm.  The Broncos lost a home game in the process as they were scheduled to host Sangamon Valley.
Eisenhower also cancelled its first game against Sacred Heart-Griffin because of COVID issues and other things, like ineligibilities.
I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
