MAC ON SPORTS: STANFORD OLYMPIA JOINS SANGAMO

Maroa-Forsyth’s Athletics Director Phil Applebee offered these comments after it was announced that Stanford Olympic will join the Sangamo Conference in 2022-23 when Virden North Mac leaves.
“While we are sad to see North Mac move to another conference, Maroa-Forsyth is very excited to bring a school like Olympia High School to the Sangamo Conference.
“They bring a strong history and tradition of competitive excellence in many of their extra-curricular activities which will make the conference stronger overall. Their community and administration put a value on competing with integrity and we look forward to working with them,” said Applebee in his response to the Decatur Tribune inquiry for reaction to the news.
Olympia comprises the towns of Atlanta, McLean, Waynesville, Armington, Hopedale, Minier, Stanford, and Danvers. Currently, the district ranks number four in the state in terms of square miles at 377. The current student population for the district kindergarten through 12 is approximately 1800 with a high school population of 525.
The school includes a variety of sports and activities which includes 21 state trophies, 6 state championships, and 14 individual IHSA state champions.
I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune which continues to bring the latest prep sports news to its subscribers.
